Timberwolves Hire Chris Finch as New Head Coach

Former Assistant Coach Takes Over

Finch Has Been With the Team Since 2020

The Minnesota Timberwolves have named Chris Finch as their new head coach, the team announced on Monday. Finch, 51, has been an assistant coach with the Timberwolves since 2020.

Finch takes over for Ryan Saunders, who was fired on Sunday after three seasons. The Timberwolves went 19-23 under Saunders this season, and they missed the playoffs for the 16th time in the past 17 seasons.

Finch has over 20 years of coaching experience, including stints as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, and New Orleans Pelicans. He is known as an offensive innovator, and he is expected to bring a more up-tempo style of play to the Timberwolves.

Finch inherits a young team with a lot of potential. The Timberwolves have three All-Stars in Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards. They also have a number of other talented players, including Jaden McDaniels, Malik Beasley, and Taurean Prince.

Finch will have his work cut out for him, but he is excited about the challenge. He believes that the Timberwolves can be a playoff contender, and he is looking forward to leading them to success.

"I am honored and excited to be the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves," Finch said. "This is a young team with a lot of talent, and I believe that we can be a playoff contender. I am looking forward to working with these players and helping them reach their full potential."

The Timberwolves will open the 2021-22 season on October 20th against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
