Thompson, a 24-year-old from England High School in Monroe, Louisiana, was rated a three-star recruit by ESPN and 247Sports. He played defensive line for Cincinnati, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman.
In his junior season, Thompson had eight sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles. He earned All-AAC First Team honors. He continued to impress in his senior year, posting 6.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
At the East-West Shrine Bowl, Thompson showcased his pass-rushing abilities, generating pressure and showcasing his athleticism. He was praised for his strength, burst, and relentless effort.
