Barack Obama

Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Obama served in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2004. In 2004, he was elected to the United States Senate, becoming only the third African-American senator since Reconstruction. Obama's memoir, "Dreams from My Father," was published in 1995 and became a bestseller.

John McCain

John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone on August 29, 1936. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as a naval aviator in the Vietnam War. McCain was shot down and captured by North Vietnamese forces in 1967 and spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war. After his release in 1973, McCain returned to the Navy and eventually retired as a captain in 1981.
