Chelsea Handler: Comedian, Author, and Talk Show Host

Early Life and Career

Chelsea Joy Handler was born on February 25, 1975, in Livingston, New Jersey. Her mother, Rita Stoecker, was a Mormon born in Germany, and her father, Seymour Handler, was an American-born Jewish man. Handler began her comedy career in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, performing at various comedy clubs.

"Chelsea Lately" and Subsequent Projects

In 2007, Handler launched her own late-night talk show on E! called "Chelsea Lately." The show quickly gained popularity for its raunchy humor and celebrity guests, and ran for seven seasons until 2014. Since then, Handler has hosted several other talk shows, including "Chelsea Does" (Netflix) and "Chelsea" (NBC).

In addition to her work on television, Handler is also an accomplished author. She has written six books, including four New York Times bestsellers: "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands" (2005), "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" (2008), "Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me" (2011), and "Uganda Be Kidding Me" (2014).

Current Endeavors

Chelsea Handler continues to work in both television and literature. In 2023, she launched her weekly podcast, "Dear Chelsea," where she offers advice to listeners with her signature wit. She also has a new Netflix comedy special, "Chelsea Handler: Revolution," scheduled for release in 2024.
